Privacy Policy

Kindred is a dating product for adults seeking serious, long-term relationships. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information. Email address, sign-in provider (Apple, Google, or email/password), and a unique account identifier issued by our authentication provider.
- Profile content. Display name, age, location (city and state only), photos, bio, occupation, education, and the values-based answers you provide during onboarding (faith, family, intent, lifestyle).
- Activity. Swipes, matches, messages, blocks, and reports you submit. Conversation content is stored so both participants can read it.
- Device and diagnostic data. App version, operating system, crash reports, performance metrics, and aggregated usage events. We do not collect a persistent advertising identifier.
- Purchase status. Whether you hold an active Gold, Platinum, or Lifetime entitlement, and the renewal/expiration dates tied to that entitlement. We do not see your card details — Apple, Google, and our payment processors handle that.
- Moderation signals. Reports you submit about other users, reports submitted about you, and any moderation actions taken on your account.
How we use your information
- Run matching, ranking, messaging, and the values-based compatibility features that make up the core product.
- Operate billing and entitlement enforcement, including verifying subscription status with Apple, Google, and our billing platform.
- Investigate reports, enforce community standards, and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse.
- Send transactional notifications (matches, messages, security alerts). You can manage push notification categories in Settings.
- Improve product quality through aggregated analytics and crash telemetry. We do not sell your personal data and do not run third party advertising on the product.
Service providers we share data with
We rely on the following processors. Each acts under contract and only for the purposes listed below.
- Supabase — database hosting, authentication, real time messaging, file storage.
- RevenueCat — subscription state and entitlement verification on iOS and Android.
- Stripe — billing for any web-only checkout.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — in-app purchase processing and receipt validation.
- Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications you have opted into.
- Sentry — error and crash telemetry. We disable transmission of personally identifiable information at the SDK level.
- PostHog — first-party product analytics. Events are tied to your Kindred account ID, not to a cross-app advertising identifier.
- Render — application hosting for our API.
- Compatibility service — internal AI service that scores values alignment and produces match insight reports. Runs on our infrastructure.
How long we keep your data
While your account is active, we retain your profile, messages, and activity history so that you and the people you have matched with can keep using them. If you request account deletion, we delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except where retention is required for fraud prevention, billing reconciliation, legal compliance, or ongoing safety investigation.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction. You can review and update your profile from the app at any time.
- Deletion. Settings → Delete account, or use the web deletion form.
- Notifications. Settings → Notifications lets you turn off matches, messages, and likes individually, in addition to the iOS/Android system controls.
- Subscriptions. Cancel from iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, or Play Store → Subscriptions on Android. Apple and Google do not let us cancel store subscriptions on your behalf.
Photo verification
Photo verification is optional. When you submit a verification selfie, the image is sent to Amazon Rekognition (a service operated by Amazon Web Services) for face comparison against your primary profile photo. Rekognition does not retain the image you submit through this comparison API.
On Kindred's side:
- If the comparison auto-resolves (high confidence either way), your selfie is processed in memory and never written to our storage.
- If the comparison falls into a borderline range, your selfie is held briefly in a private bucket accessible only to authorized moderators reviewing the queue. The selfie is deleted from storage immediately when a moderator takes action — and in any case no later than 48 hours after submission, enforced by an automatic retention sweep.
- We do not show your verification selfie to other users at any point. Only authorized Kindred moderators see borderline selfies, and only for the duration of their review.
- We retain a small audit row recording the outcome of each verification attempt (verified, rejected, similarity score) even after the selfie image is deleted. This row contains no biometric data.
Children
Kindred is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at support@kindredlove.app and we will remove the account.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Database access is governed by row-level security policies that restrict reads and writes to the owning account or authorized administrators. We do not promise that no breach will ever occur, but we take commercially reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized access and to notify affected users where required by law.
International users
Kindred is operated from the United States. By using the app you understand that your data is processed and stored in the United States, and that other countries may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or via email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change.
